Auditions
Recorded auditions for Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Concert Choir. Beginning Band and Concert Band do not require an audition.
Auditions are required for our three advanced ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Concert Choir. Beginning Band and Concert Band do not require auditions — new students simply enroll.
How to audition
Auditions are submitted as audio recordings — there is no live audition. You can record on a phone, tablet, or computer. MP3 is preferred, but most audio formats can be converted.
Deadline: August 17 at 11:59 PM
Email recordings to Jeff Fields at malpal1@yahoo.com.
Each recording should include
- A spoken introduction stating your name, grade, and instrument (or voice part)
- The designated solo excerpt
- The required audition scales
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble audition uses the same solo and scales as the NCCSA All-State Music Clinic Band audition, so a single recording satisfies both.
To request the current solo list and scale sheet, email Jeff Fields at malpal1@yahoo.com.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band excerpts are sent on request. Email Jeff Fields with your name, grade, and instrument and he’ll send you the appropriate audition material. The same August 17 deadline applies.
Concert Choir
The Concert Choir audition is a brief vocal range assessment rather than a prepared solo. Email malpal1@yahoo.com to schedule yours.
NCCSA All-State Band
The North Carolina Christian School Association holds a separate All-State Band audition each fall, leading into the annual NCCSA Music Clinic. The 2025 clinic is scheduled for November; specific audition and clinic dates will be announced.
NCCSA does not require an audition for their choir — choir participation is open to all enrolled students.
